Provenance: Unidentifiable shelf label affixed to title-page; R. Martin (ownership signature dated 1936).

Berghaus was a German cartographer and geographer who created the groundbreaking "Physikalischer Atlas" (Physical Atlas), first published between 1838 and 1848. This work is considered the first comprehensive thematic atlas of the world.
